A Further Wind Tunnel Investigation of Underwing Jet Interference bY
نویسنده
چکیده
SUMMARY Further experiments, to investigate the interference of the Jet stream issuing from a high bypass ratio engine mounted below a wing, are described. Tests have been made with a two-dimensional wing, and two nozzle shapes representing engues with different fan cowl lengths. A Jet blonng from these nozzles produced negligible interference on the wing upper surface. However, a change in th8 lower surface pressure distribution occurred which was dependent only on the wing and nozzle geometry. This interference was dominated by a high suction peak, which appeared to be related to a region in the Jet where the alternate expansion and compression waves were not uniformly spaced. The tests were conducted mostly without an engine pylon. When a pylon was introduced the effect was reduced slightly, but the character of the Interference remained unaltered. An attempt was made to show the possibility of a wing altering the noise level by reflecting the sound from a Jet. Sohlieren pictures were taken with a spark source, but the expected phenomenon of aero-acoustic resonance was not found.

SUMMARY Wind-tunnel tests have been made to assess the aerodynamic potential of an overwing installation for fan-jet engines on a typlcal modern transport aeroplane. Low-speed tests on a complete model with free-flow nacelles and tests at higher speed on a partial model incorporating a blown jet are described; it is concluded that the lift-dependent drag associated with such an installation wou...
متن کاملWind Tunnel Investigation of Pressure Distribution and Transition Position of a Swept 3D Wing
Extensive wind tunnel tests are conducted to evaluate surface pressure distribution of a semi span swept wing. The wing section has a laminar flow airfoil similar to NACA 6-series airfoils. The investigations are conducted at various speeds and angles of attack. Surface pressure distribution over the wing upper surface is measured for both chordwise and spanwise sections. Statistical analyses a...
متن کاملDesign and Manufacturing of Jet to free Stream Simulator to Experimental Study of Interaction of Oblique Jet in Crossflow
The study of interactions of jet into cross flow at different longitudinal and transverse angles of jet was studied. The following components were designed and constructed: a low velocity wind tunnel to produce the uniform flow, a flat plate with a traverse injection system to simulate the jet injection, and a spatial rake to measure the total pressure. The tests were carried out at longitudina...
